'70s Trivia and FAQ (frequently asked questions)

We get a lot of e-mail asking what we know or remember about this or that from the 1970s. Still living in the '70s, I obviously remember a lot of useless garbage, but not everything. So, here is the spot where I will post your questions and my answers (if I can come up with 'em). If I can't, or if anyone can expand on or correct them, please e-mail me at StuckInThe70s@yahoo.com, and I'll post your '70s knowledge on this page! Thanks, man! NOTE: I'm working on a message board for the site so that you can answer each other's questions and post it to the site immediately!! Check back soon!

Can anyone help with the following stuff?

If anyone can help these folks, please e-mail me at StuckInThe70s@yahoo.com, or e-mail them at the addresses given! Thanks y'all!

Hi there! I am trying to get my hands on a copy of the song that Gene Gene The Dancin' Machine would dance to during the intermission of The Gong Show. Can anybody help me? What was the name of that song, and who did it?

Sincerely, Jodi Paige

Answer: (from a SIT70s visitor): Not sure when you wrote it, but maybe you're still wondering about that music that Gene Gene the Dancing Machine danced to on the Gong Show? If so, maybe this passage from "Just Farr Fun", Jamie Farr's autobio, will help you... :)
"One day, Chuck caught one of the stage hands, a janitor named Gene Patton, dancing with his broom--not moving his feet at all, just shaking his behind, backed by a Count Basie number playing on his radio. So Chuck put him on the show, shuffling with his broom to the tune of'One O'Clock Jump.' He became Gene Gene the Dancing Machine, and an overnight national sensation." Kerri McIntosh

Joel and Denise Graeff <mailto:deg13@psu.edu?subject='70s chair> are looking for the name of that funny chair we all remember. Can you help them?
"I need to know the name of those chairs shaped like an eggshell. I believe some or all of them had speakers in them at ear level. They have appeared in that 70s show,
dazed'n'confused, etc. what a cool artifact; i wouldn't mind having one!"

Dixon asks: "Maybe you can answer something for me, or find someone who can...what did the colors on the mood ring mean? I thought blue was happy, purple to black meant a sour mood, etc. But I could be wrong. Who would know? Where can I look this up? Peace, and keep on truckin'"

Answer from the Seventies Chick: The last thing I received from my grandmother before she died in 1975 was a mood ring.

Here's the scoop:
black: anxious, excitable
amber: nervous, tense
amber-green: troubled, uneasy
green: sensitive
blue-green: relaxed, calm
dark blue-purple: happy, love

Q. Why did polyester jeans bomb in the '70s?

A. The answer is because polyester jeans do not fade, tie-dye, or bleach. I guess you can add this to your Gee Whiz information!
